Intro- Chapter 2 Post : Local Organization Investigator

As I read through the Introduction and chapter 2 in Half The Sky, I came across a lot of organizations that i had never heard of before from other countries around the world. I then came across the UNICEF organization, even though i knew some information about this organization already, i found it to be an interesting topic to learn more about.

UNICEF stands for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. UNICEF is a humanitarian relief organization providing children with water, health care, food, and education. UNICEF is a United States funded relief organization, and there mission is to make the number of 22,000 children that still die each day from preventable causes to zero. I think that this is a reasonable mission and goal because if you look at all the preventable deaths that happen if there was just that much more money or that many more doctors, that child may have survived, and for that i praise the United States for getting involved as much as they possibly can through the UNICEF relief organization.

The UNICEF organization operates in over 150,000 countries and that number continues to grow every year. UNICEF strives to reach the children whom are in most need or relief and for those poorer countries UNICEF doubles their efforts in hope that will make a difference. UNICEF also helps children who have HIV/ AIDS. UNICEF has placed children center stage in their most recent Campaign: "Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS". This campaign tries to organize its campaign by using the "4 P's", which are: Prevention, providing, preventing, and protecting.

UNICEF wishes that they could save all these children alone, but they can't so they depend heavily on supporters such as: Celebrity Ambassadors, Non-Governmental Organizations, Corporate Partners, Volunteers, and there biggest supporters, Donors.

I chose this organization because i had been introduced to it while i was in high school, but i never really took the time to do any research on the organization. I feel that this is a really strong well built relief organization, which is going to do nothing but grow even bigger and bigger in the future.
